Dancing Hill - A Short Cut to Happiness

Look what we’ve got! A fantastic property for your luxury large group holiday or short stay! Great for families, celebrations, getting your friends together and corporate away breaks. It sleeps 12 people in 6 bedrooms and has a games room, a stunning dining room, and outside, a hot tub, swim spa, large secure garden, and breath taking rural views. We added this gorgeous house to our portfolio just last week and it’s already proving to be very popular with bookings taken as soon as it went live. It’s called Dancing Hill.

Dancing Hill. What a lovely name. A lovely name for a lovely house, high on a Somerset hillside close to the village of North Petherton, with a spectacular panorama out across the countryside. No kidding, you can look out over the Somerset Levels and see Glastonbury Tor and Burrow Mump rising out of the flat landscape; a little to the other side are the gentle slopes of the Polden Hills and at the back are far reaching views over Bridgwater Bay - on a clear day you can see as far as Wales. We’ll say it now: Forgive us if we keep going on about the views, but they really are incredible!

We love Dancing Hill; not only is it in a peaceful spot and spacious inside, but it’s got that wonderful blend of old fashioned charm and all mod cons, and it’s so unique. It’s got fabulous quirky decor, like the velvety dog wallpaper in Bedroom 3 and the awesome patchwork tiles in the downstairs shower room. You feel the homely ambience as soon as you step in the big old front door into the softly lit hallway, with unusual herringbone terracotta tiles on the floor, and centuries old beams on the walls and ceilings.

The kitchen has heaps of storage and right in the middle is a pine table; great for sitting and reading the paper whilst you eat your breakfast eggs, or for piling with flour and sugar and having a bake off. There’s a dishwasher of course, but do you know what? With that view from the kitchen window… The dining room! Oh, the dining room! It’s huge for one thing, and it’s light and airy with windows that wrap around two sides, giving you access to yep, those amazing views. Bi-fold doors open onto the patio. And that table! Aluminuim covered, with designer leather chairs, Spitfire style at each end; it’s eclectic, and there’s comfy sofas to one side so when you’ve finished your celebratory feast you can go and put your feet up.

The games room is one of a kind, with country pursuits wallpaper; big sofas allow for spectators when you play ping-pong so no chance of cheating. The commodious sitting room has a charming cottagey feel; oak beams on the ceiling and a red brick fireplace with an enamelled wood-burning stove, warm tartan sofas, soft buttery yellow walls. In the floor is a glass covered well, so you can see right down it and at night you can have it backlit. A peaceful room that’s equally good for reading a book, a quiet game of Scrabble, or for snuggling up on the sofas and watching an action packed movie.

Bedroom 1 has its own fully tiled shower room and those panoramic views over to the Bristol Channel so you can sit in bed, cup of tea in hand and contemplate before you get up. Next to it is a little snug with Penguin Book wallpaper – very apt as it’s the perfect spot for a quiet read with an outlook over the living roof to the far reaching scenes beyond. Striking red and gold wallpaper gives Bedroom 2 an opulent feel and just across the landing Bedroom 3 has the doggy wallpaper. Bedroom 4 is a pretty room with delicate floral sprigs on the walls; it looks out over the front garden and the fields to the Quantock Hills, as does Bedroom 5, different again, with calming pastelly colours. Downstairs is Bedroom 6, all cosy with beams and a feature fireplace.

The family bathroom upstairs is real heritage style, tiled in green brick effect ceramics, with a traditional sink, but that rainfall shower you step up into blends in perfectly. Downstairs is a shower room that’s so modernly quirky, it’s fun – a glitzy walk in shower and a colourful patchwork of tiles in the loo; brilliant.

At the back of the house there’s a veranda – good for morning coffee or for seeking refuge in the shade on a blazing hot day. It overlooks a secure garden that’s good for smaller children, so you can keep an eye on them while they play. You could spend hours on the decking outside of the dining room, lounging about on the comfy seating, now and then wandering down to the lower deck for a splash in the 4m swim spa. Ah, but best of all is to be in the hot tub at night, beneath the stars. In fact being outside at night at Dancing Hill is heaven, with owls hooting and all the lights twinkling along the coast in the far distance… it’s so beautiful it leaves you lost for words.
