Sleeping 8 guests in 4 bedrooms, Bean Goose Barn is a lovely place to stay for family holidays in the country, for quiet celebrations with your nearest and dearest, or to get together for a few days away with friends and their children. The setting is a tiny hamlet on the Somerset Levels, an enchanting landscape where the pace of life slows down; it’s a world away from the push and shove of city life.

Step out from the doorstep for walks along the winding lanes, or follow footpaths through the fields and along old drover’s tracks, all around you wholesome fresh air and big open skies. Within just a few miles you’ll find plenty to see and do, there are family attractions nearby and a great choice of places to eat.

Get up early and pootle up the road to Coates English Willow Visitor Centre; see how they make baskets and furniture from the withies they grow, stop for cake in the café, take a leisurely amble through the wetlands. A little further along is Stoke St Gregory where you can pop into the Royal Oak for lunch or stock up on local delights in the shop. What’s nice is to stroll along the banks of the River Tone and climb to the top of Burrow Mump to admire the views that stretch for miles across the landscape; then head back down to The King Alfred Inn for hearty home cooked pub food.

Go to Langport and hire bikes to explore the Levels at your own pace, or walk along the river and over to Muchelney Abbey; pop into the village church to see the colourful painted angels on the 17th century wagon roof. Discover Taunton, Somerset’s county town, where you can visit the Museum of Somerset and play on the adventure course in the park.

Head over to the Jurassic Coast for days by the sea; if you like trains go to Beer where you can pootle round the gardens on the miniature railway at Pecorama; round it off with crab sandwiches by the shore at Ducky's Beach Cafe. Walk out along the harbour at Lyme Regis to the Marine Aquarium then take a boat trip and catch mackerel for tea. Back in town, check out the fossils and the huge lump of dinosaur poo at Dinosaurland Fossil Museum.

Plan a family trip Wookey Hole where there are over 20 attractions, or to Wells to see the glorious cathedral and the Bishop’s Palace where the swans that live in the moat swim up and pull on a bell when it’s feeding time. On the way home call in at The Firehouse for wood fired pizzas - just the kind of things that holidays are all about. You’ll go home with so many happy memories when you come for a little stay at Bean Goose Barn!
