Coat Barn - Accommodation

A generous helping of luxury togetherness in the beautiful Somerset countryside is on the menu when you stay at Coat Barn. It’s hard to believe that this huge holiday house for large family groups was once the grain and hay barns on a working farm – it’s seen an incredible transformation! Super spacious throughout with all the mod cons you need to make your stay stress free, and in a wonderful location, in a tiny hamlet on the edge of the Somerset Levels; think bounteous fresh air, bird song and peace.

Go through to the wide hallway at Coat Barn and to the right is a very slick and stylish kitchen with plenty of space to cook for a large group, or for caterers to work if you hire them to come and create a scrumptious celebration feast for you. There’s also a table and chairs, which works well if you have younger children in your group who need an earlier dinner time than the rest of you. Beyond the kitchen is the huge dining hall where centre stage is a long handcrafted table and to either end is a staircase.

Take the stairs at the end of the dining hall up to Bedrooms 1 and 2, both with ensuite bathrooms. Bedroom 1 is particularly spacious with full height windows to both sides at one end of the room. The other staircase from the dining hall leads to Bedrooms 3 and 4 and a wide galleried landing – the ideal place for you to take turns to entertain everyone before dinner! Bedroom 3 has an ensuite shower room, Bedroom 4 has the luxury of a dressing room leading through to an ensuite shower room. The Bedrooms all exude a very calm and restful feel, and with black out curtains as well, you’re bound to get a good night’s sleep.

Back downstairs, left of the kitchen there’s a large utility area with laundry facilities, and beyond this a family bathroom and Bedroom 5. This makes a brilliant room for a family or for 4 older children to sleep dormitory style as it sleeps 4 in 2 super king beds, a super king and 2 singles, or in 4 singles.

Continue through the dining hall to the living room, with a huge U-shape sofa and a big screen TV – perfect for a family movie night, all snuggled up nice and comfy with bowls of popcorn to share. Off the living room a corridor leads to Bedrooms 6, 7 and 8, all with TVs and ensuite shower rooms. The layout of Coat Barn is similar to a Roman villa would have been, with the accommodation set round a large courtyard garden; the corridors to either side have floor to ceiling windows, giving a lovely light filled ambience to the house.

The pool hall is just across the courtyard and has a changing room and a WC; upstairs is the games room, a seriously cool place to hang out, lounging about on bean bags, playing table tennis and table football. Get the whole family up there and raise a games challenge – the loser has to do 20 laps around the courtyard! All good fun and something to keep you giggling.

The garden is private and it’s south facing so when the sun has got his hat on get out there, soak up those rays, fire up the barbecue and get the sausages sizzling. Play leap frog on the lawn, do handstands, cartwheels, or if it’s just TOO hot, put your feet up on the loungers. To the side of the house there’s play equipment for the little ones and another area of lawn where you can have a game of rounders or French cricket. That’s just what family holidays are all about; happy times spent making memories. Book your stay today!
