The Sea Shanty Beach Café, Branscombe, Devon

You’ll find this little gem right on the beach at Branscombe; go there for a delicious homemade lunch or cream tea after sunning yourself or to round off a coastal walk. They’ve been here since 1943 and still retain a charming relaxed ambience, and they’re big on local produce with fresh crab landed just outside and beer from the micro brewery just up the road. Salads and herbs are grown in the village, eggs are from a nearby farm. Breads and cakes are baked at their own brewery a few miles away in Sidmouth. Stop off for breakfast or for a light bite of Grilled Sardines with Aioli, Salad and Ciabatta or half a pint of shell-on prawns with their own Marie-Rose sauce, Salad and Bread, or choose from a selection of sandwiches – Roasted West Country Chicken with Lemon Mayo, or that Branscombe Bay caught crab. Tuck into mains such as Ham Hock Terrine with a fried egg, Chips and Salad, Seafood & Shellfish Linguini, or Hearty Homity Pie with Salad. There’s no children’s menu as such, just smaller portions for the little ones, which is the best way to educate their palates.

A warm welcome, friendly service and dogs can come too; happy times!

The Sea Shanty Beach Café is open during the summer every day from 9.00 am-5.00 pm and in the winter at weekends and on Bank Holidays from 10.00 am-4.00 pm T: 01297 680577
