Big Holiday Cottage in Somerset Sleeping 14 – With A Hot Tub!

Our photographer’s been out to Frog Street this week, to capture the essence of this Somerset holiday house following a significant revamp from its former days as a successful B&B. And wowsers, what a result! As you can see from the pics, this big holiday cottage for 12 (plus 2 more at an additional charge per person) is a wonderful blend of gorgeous interiors and traditional country charm, and with a hot tub, 5m swim spa, BBQ lodge, play area and games room it’s got everything you need for any large group stay.

Frog Street is the epitome of the English country cottage in many ways; it’s tucked away round winding high hedged lanes, on a private road surrounded by the beautiful Somerset countryside, yet not far from Taunton and within easy reach of the M5 and A358. Staddle stones line the driveway, wisteria scrambles up the walls, cottage garden flowers spill onto lawns dotted with daisies, and a short path leads to the cool of the stone front porch.

Inside it positively oozes rustic character; thick old stone walls, elm timbers and ceiling beams, and as you’d expect from a house that dates back to the 15th century, low ceilings – but this doesn’t detract at all from the light and airiness, it’s all so utterly charming. Also, it’s one of those holiday homes that’s equally gorgeous anytime of year; it’s just as easy to imagine relaxing in the hot tub beneath a summer sky the colour of cornflowers as it is to envisage coming back from a walk in the fields in late Autumn to light the wood-burner and snuggle up on the big leather sofas with a tray of hot buttery crumpets to share.

What you really notice is the incredibly calm and relaxed ambience that Frog Street has; if that could be bottled, well, what a peaceful place the world would be. But here, it’s like your own little world anyway, birds twittering, horses out in the fields contentedly grazing; you might even catch a glimpse of a deer at feed.

So come and unwind. Frog Street is perfect for all kinds of large group stays whether it’s a family holiday, a weekend away celebrating a big birthday with friends, or a corporate team building break. The kitchen is a dream, well designed and well equipped and it’s such a sociable space so you can have a glass of wine and a natter whilst you cook that celebration dinner, although, cooking for a large group isn’t everybody’s idea of fun, which is why you’ll find several well reputed local caterers listed on our Extras page; have a look at their menus, book them up and they’ll come and cook you up a feast. Somehow they manage to make it look so effortless, leaving everything clean and tidy, so you lot get to really enjoy the occasion, all gathered round the long dining table tucking into something scrumptious.

Beyond the sitting room there’s a games room which is no doubt where the youngsters will be hanging out a lot of the time, playing pool, air hockey or table tennis on the 3-in-1 games table.

You ought to sleep really well at Frog Street, and wake up feeling revitalised and full of energy; the bedrooms are all so restful, all have en suite bathrooms or shower rooms, and it’s even possible to accommodate two extra beds (there’s an additional charge for each extra person) so if there’s a group of 14 of you, no worries, come on down to Somerset, come to Frog Street.

The thing is, we totally understand the needs of big groups when they’re on holiday; we appreciate that there’s got to be things to keep everyone entertained, and that’s been a big focus of the revamp at Frog Street. The result is a sensational garden. Yes, it’s enormous and has plenty of room for running around, playing rounders, French cricket, tag, whatever you like, and yes, it has a play area for the kids, but what really rocks at Frog Street is the indoor 5m swim spa. It’s amazing! Changing rooms and everything, great big doors you can fold back to bring the sunshine in; it’s fab, and out on the veranda there’s a big bubbly hot tub where you can sit back and gaze out over the fields. Well, it doesn’t get much more relaxing than that, does it? At night, there’s little twinkly lights above you so you can sit out there and chatter away till late at night.

The other thing that’s here is one of those cosy Nordic style BBQ lodges, but what’s good about this one is that it has a small kitchen attached to it, so it can rain, it can snow, it can do whatever it likes, it doesn’t matter because you can all have fun out there no matter what the weather’s doing. Play cards, play charades, bring a guitar with you and have a sing-song, the kind of stuff that holidays are all about, happy memories to take home with you.

You see, Frog Street isn’t just a place to stay, it’s a place to enjoy. Check availability and book your stay today.
