Broadchalke, Salisbury, Wiltshire
Well known for its watercress beds locally, Broadchalke sits on the banks of the River Ebble; like most of the villages round these parts it’s very peaceful and very pretty; red brick thatched cottages, a charming little church where, incidentally, Cecil Beaton is buried, and an award winning café and stores, which is pretty much the hub of the community, the sort of serendipitous discovery you make when you’re pootling about the lanes on holiday.
In the middle of the village is a pub, The Queen’s Head; with all its traditions of a true country inn, its worth stopping for a pint or a bite to eat.
