The House

Hares Barton is a house of two parts – a 300 year old former dairy is the main house and right opposite, a hay barn is now the spa hall. Original stone and brick walls, exposed steel supports and chunky timbers come together with colourful and quirky interiors to create the perfect blend of contemporary, rustic and industrial throughout.

Go into the light and airy hallway and to the right there’s a utility room with laundry facilities. Straight ahead is the vast open-plan living space; to one end is soft seating, in the middle there’s a double-sided wood-burner and a bespoke rustic dining table, and beyond is the kitchen, where naked wood cladding gives a parred back look and the island is inlaid with 2p pieces; all are heads up except for 3 – but can you find them?

Off the dining area are Bedrooms 1-3, from the far end of the kitchen a secret door leads to Bedrooms 4-6. Bedroom 7 is just inside the secret door on the left and like the entire ground floor of the main house, is access friendly with an ensuite wet room. All the bedrooms at Hares Barton have zip and link beds that can be arranged as super kings or twins.

Opposite the main house is the spa hall with a WC and changing room, a heated pool and a hot tub. The games room has windows overlooking the pool, table tennis, a pool table, comfy seating, a large TV and a kitchenette. Upstairs are Bedrooms 8-10.

Just outside of the spa hall there’s a barrel sauna and in the garden at the front of the main house there’s garden furniture and a barbecue area. When the sun slips gently below the horizon and you’re sat there, drink in hand, you’ll understand why Hares Barton is such a special place to stay.

Local Area

Hares Barton is only a couple of miles from Colyton, a quiet town with local shops, two pubs and a tram station. Climb on board for a ride along the Axe estuary to Seaton, have fish and chips by the sea or wander out to Axmouth Harbour beach for a spuddle in the rockpools.

A short drive away at Beer you can watch the fishing boats from the beach café, hire self-drive motorboats, or walk over the clifftops on the South West Coast Path to Branscombe, a picturesque coastal village with a shoreside café and two good pubs.

Further along the coast you can spend a day on the beach at Sidmouth or on the sands at Exmouth watching watersports. Go to Lyme Regis and visit Dinosaurland Fossil Museum and the little Marine Aquarium, then catch a boat for a mackerel fishing trip.

Have an afternoon out at the Donkey Sanctuary, ride the miniature railway at Pecorama, see the animals and zoom on the zip wire at Wildwood Devon. Wherever you go, whatever you do, back at Hares Barton a perfect evening awaits you; a splash in the pool, a soak in the hot tub, a game of ping-pong, a drink as the sun slips softly over the hill. It’s what they call perfick in these parts.
