Withymans - Accommodation

When you turn off the lane and up the drive to Withymans you'll see this big old farmhouse standing there, and you'll know you've made a fantastic choice for your large group holiday in the West Country. Withymans was built in Georgian times and still has a lot of original features - like the marble fireplaces in the reception rooms, the huge sash windows with wooden shutters, high ceilings, picture rails and decorative plasterwork. It all blends to perfection with the eclectic interiors, it’s wonderful.

Step inside the big front door to a wide hallway that runs from back to front; off to the right is the movie room with an enormous TV, big L-shaped sofa to snuggle up on for family film nights; what we love is the hunting frieze that runs around the whole room, dating from the 1920s.

Next door is the Drawing Room, very in keeping with a huge gilt mirror, florals and chintzes. Just imagine tucking into toasted teacakes in here by the fire after a blustery walk around the fields… Left of the hall is the downstairs WC, and a little further along contemporary glass doors open to the kitchen/dining room.

This is a room where you can all gather together, a really sociable space; to one end is the kitchen with everything you need to rustle up a fabulous feast for all. The original bread oven is still here, and the huge fireplace now houses the cooker. The dining room will be the scene of many a happy family celebration; there's a long rustic table, a user-friendly wood-burner, and French doors that open onto the patio at the front of the house.

To the back of the kitchen there's a lobby with a special canine cubby for dogs to sleep, all snug and warm; a door opens to the back courtyard, and another leads through to the utility room where you'll find laundry facilities, an extra fridge/freezer, and a loo. Also off the lobby is Bedroom 6, access friendly with a king size bed and a large, level ensuite wet room.

Straight ahead in the hall, a wide staircase leads to a half landing that overlooks the back courtyard. Carry on up a few more steps to Bedroom 5 which is a twin room and has a door to a Jack & Jill shower room that’s shared with Bedroom 4. On the main landing, Bedrooms 1 and 2 are off to the left; Bedroom 1 has a very contemporary feel, with a super king bed and an ensuite shower room. Bedroom 2 has zip and link beds (super king or twin), and in front of one of the windows there's a free-standing bath.

Bedroom 3 has a king size bed and uses the family bathroom; Bedroom 4 has zip and link beds and a door to the Jack & Jill shower room, shared with Bedroom 5. Note that Bedrooms 1 and 4 both have room for 1 extra guest bed at an additional charge per person - great for families or for 3 older children sharing.

Downstairs by the back door, stone steps lead down to the games room - back in the day this was the cellar and its original character has been retained with the red brick pillars and vaulted ceiling. There's a gaming zone with a TV that you can plug your own devices into, a chill out corner, table football and air hockey. A door opens to steps up to the courtyard where a table and chairs provide the perfect spot for morning coffee.

To the front of the house is a large secure garden; step out onto a big patio where there’s plenty of outdoor furniture and a barbecue; get your steaks sizzling, soak in the hot tub, gather round the firepit in the small wooded area, watch the kids happily bouncing on the trampoline. What's great is that the garden gets the sun from dawn till dusk, so you can spend unhurried days in the fresh air; in the evening grab a sundowner and watch the sun sink slowly over the horizon before you head upstairs to Blanket Land. Find your luxury togetherness at Withymans.
