The Royal Oak, Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire

Although it’s been modernised in recent years, The Royal Oak at Edwinstowe still retains the charm and ambience of a traditional village pub. The food gets good reviews, and certainly has some temptations on the menu, with mains like Twice baked mature Cheddar souffle, Braised lamb shoulder and Korean chicken taco. There are also burgers and stone baked pizzas, a children’s menu, and on the light bites, a choice of sandwiches including Croque Monsieur and Roast beef with Stilton and red onion marmalade. Sundays is roast day and they say it’s excellent; no matter what day it is everything is made from scratch using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.

Call in to The Royal Oak for a hearty lunch after a walk to see Robin Hood’s Major Oak or a longer romp round Sherwood Forest. If it’s cold you can look forward to warming up by the wood-burner.
