Pound Farm - Accommodation

A very special blend of country character and modern convenience awaits you at Pound Farm; you’ll start to notice how you feel more and more relaxed as the roads grow quieter and when you head down the lane to this beautiful old farmhouse any worries will just drift away. Here is everything you need for an amazing large group holiday in the West Country; 8 ensuite bedrooms, a games room, a private indoor pool, sauna and hot tub, and the backdrop of peaceful countryside.

Step in through the huge front door in the castellated porch and a wealth of character greets you; high ceilings, original floorboards and flagstones, stripped pine doors, wooden panelling and period sash windows with shutters. At the bottom of the stairs is a utility room, perfect for muddy boots and dogs after a walk in the fields. Turn right along the hallway to the living room, light and spacious, with a very restful ambience; this is a lovely room for afternoon tea, a quiet read, or for settling down to watch a movie. A focal point is the local stone fireplace; imagine getting back from a wintry walk in the lanes, lighting the fire and putting your feet up with a mug of hot chocolate and a tray of buttery crumpets…

To the left of the hall, two pine doors lead into the bright and airy dining room; a bespoke rustic dining table makes for lavish feasts to remember, and it extends to comfortably seat 18 people. A cosy window seat overlooks the rear courtyard; to the front is a view of the walled garden and the field rising beyond.

The dining room leads through to the farmhouse kitchen, with original flagstone floor, oak beams and a double Butler sink. A huge inglenook houses a 4 oven electric Aga, a separate electric oven and a halogen hob; this is a very sociable kitchen where you can cook and chat around the central island; the round table by the window makes a lovely spot for a quiet breakfast with the papers. Off the kitchen is the games room with a full size pool table and table football; a door takes you out to the courtyard where you’ll find the sauna and pool house.

Stairs rise from the hallway to a spacious landing, where off to the right are Bedrooms 2 and 3; Bedroom 2 has an ensuite shower room, Bedroom 3 has an ensuite bathroom with an overhead shower. To the left of the stairs are Bedrooms 4 and 5, both with ensuite bathrooms. Most of the beds at Pound Farm are zip and link so you can have them arranged as super kings or twins.

Back down in the kitchen behind a latch and brace door a second staircase leads to Bedroom 1, a large double aspect room, with an ensuite shower room and space for an extra guest bed (charged). We love the old features – the Victorian fireplace, the enormous chimney breast behind the bed, and exposed timbers in the wall where hams were hung to dry in years gone by. The other side of the stairs is Bedroom 6, a great room for a family or for older children as there’s snooze space for 4, as well as an ensuite shower room and WC. The outlook is of open fields where livestock graze contentedly beneath the trees.

The back courtyard is quite a suntrap; a great spot for morning coffee after an early dip in the pool. To one side are Bedrooms 7 and 8, in a sympathetically converted barn; both have zip and link beds, ensuite shower facilities and room for an optional extra guest bed. These rooms have views over fields to the distant Quantock Hills. Also accessed from the courtyard is the sauna, big enough for 6, and the pool hall, with original oak roof beams and thick stone walls between the floor to ceiling windows.

A gate leads from the courtyard to the side garden, where you'll find a good-sized patio with outdoor seating and a barbecue. A sunken hot tub, big enough for 8 people, allows for some serious relaxation and star gazing; children will love the play equipment and running about on the lawns in the walled garden. Pound Farm is more than a place to stay, it’s a place to be happy. Book today!
