Littlecombe Shoot, Branscombe, Devon

Not for the faint hearted but if you’re feeling fit you should go to Littlecombe Shoot at Branscombe; it’s a lovely little spot on the East Devon Coast, a quiet bay with a pebbly beach where not many people go because the access is so difficult. But it’s fun. Just off the South West Coast Path a zig-zaggy path takes you down the cliffside; parts of it are a bit overgrown and parts have rope banisters for you to hold on to, but take your time and you should be fine. The beach is backed by cliffs dense with vegetation and dotted with privately owned chalets and huts that can only be reached by a network of tiny paths in the undercliff. It’s all a bit Enid Blyton somehow and if you’re not the adventurous sort to be honest, you’d be better off sticking to the main beach.
