Hill View - Accommodation

A leisurely drive through the high hedged lanes near the coast of East Devon takes you to Hill View, tucked away in the rolling hills on the edge of a peaceful hamlet not far from the little fishing village of Beer. Go on up the hill, pull into the yard, get out and stretch your legs, admire the views.

This 300 year old former dairy has seen an amazing transformation, which will knock your socks off the minute you step inside. Go in to the light and airy hallway and off to the right a few steps take you to the utility room where you'll find laundry facilities; this is a good sized room that’s useful for when you’ve been for a muddy walk in the country – hang up your wet coats, dry off your wet dogs.

Go through to the enormous living space and that's when the wow factor really kicks in; it's incredible! A polished concrete floor, original stone walls and brick work, exposed steel supports and chunky timbers, plus underfloor heating - a style that's carried on throughout the house. In the lounge area gorgeous plump sofas entice you to put your feet up, either in front of the floor to ceiling bi-fold doors that open onto the patio, or curled up by the double-sided wood-burner that provides a thoughtful partition in the centre of this vast room.

Beyond this is the dining area with a big rustic table that was made especially for Hill View. Then there's the kitchen, which again, packs a pretty big punch with the wow factor. It's spacious and the look is parred back contemporary with a few quirks thrown in, like the worktop of the central island which is inlaid with 2p pieces - all heads up except for 3, so there's a bit of fun for a rainy day - find the tails! The back wall is clad with bare wood - quite a striking feature, and it even has a secret door! This is a kitchen that's got everything you need for cooking for a large group, but there’s always the option of hiring one of our tried and tested local caterers (see Extras) – that’s something people often do when they’re away celebrating a big birthday or a significant anniversary, it’s a good way to make the occasion extra special.

Off the dining area steps lead to a small landing and to Bedrooms 1 to 3. All beds at Hill View are zip and link so you can have them arranged as super kings or twins, whatever suits your group; Bedroom 3 has room for an extra guest bed at a small additional charge. Bedroom 1 is off to the right and like all the bedrooms at the back of the house overlooks the yard; this room has a lovely ensuite bathroom with a shower over the bath, whilst Bedrooms 2 and 3 both have ensuite shower rooms.

To get to the other bedrooms you go through the secret door at the far end of the kitchen; steps take you up to Bedrooms 4-6. Round to the right is Bedroom 4 with ensuite shower facilities and room for an extra guest bed at a small additional charge. At the front of the house, overlooking the lane is Bedroom 5 with an ensuite shower room, and Bedroom 6, which has a bathroom directly opposite with a gorgeous free standing modern slipper bath.

At the bottom of the steps, just left of the secret door is Bedroom 7, an access friendly room with a built-in wardrobe and ensuite wet room. Note that the ground floor has level access throughout and is wheelchair friendly.

Outside there's a patio with bespoke garden furniture and a charcoal barbecue, and of course, the hot tub, strategically placed to make the most of those restful views. You'd be hard pushed to find a better place to sit when the sun sets in those softly rolling hills, and that’s what it’s all about – a special place to stay to enjoy luxury togetherness.
