Great Wood, The Quantocks, Somerset
Walk along the banks of ancient beech trees of this AONB, on a soft carpet of pine needles through towering conifers, or explore on bike or on horseback. There are waymarked routes of varying lengths and if you’ve got a good pushchair you’ll have no trouble getting tiny tots about. Watch out for the wildlife and you might see the ravens and buzzards that live here, and if you’re very, very quiet you may even see red deer. There’s a car park and loos, and a picnic area with tables and barbecues you can use. Nether Stowey is nearby where you can visit Coleridge Cottage and have lunch at The Ancient Mariner.
