The House

Love the country house feels as soon as you step inside! Left of the hall is the main kitchen, all bright and fresh, like something from a country interiors magazine; next to it is the breakfast room and then the dining room where you’ll definitely want to linger over a very special celebration feast. Then you’re back in the hall, and on the right is the study, a lovely spot to hunker down by the fire after a wintry walk in the Mendip Hills. Straight ahead in the hall is the main living room, the pretty and elegant Purple Room, beyond is Bedroom 10 (Dove Room), leading to a utility room and a shower room. Throughout the house Victorian splendour and original features blend to perfection with quirky modern furnishings and accessories.

On the first floor are Bedrooms 5-9 (3 ensuite) and a bathroom, and down at the end of the landing, the games room and The Green Living Room, with Sky TV and a small dining area. Along the back hall is the second kitchen, to save you going all the way downstairs when you’re peckish. On the second floor are Bedrooms 1-4; Bedroom 1 (Peacock Room) has an ensuite shower room, the others share a bathroom.

Outside is another world of happiness, with a croquet lawn, a play area with a tree house, a nature trail and right at the end of the garden, an all-weather tennis court; bring out the strawberries and Pimms, make like it’s your little Wimbledon.

But before the tennis court is the jewel in Fern Manor’s delectable crown – the spa hall. All yours for the whole of your stay, with a heated pool, a hot tub, sauna, changing rooms, somewhere to sit comfy, and even a small kitchen. Up above on the large roof terrace you can practice your putting skills on the green, soak up the sun and admire the views over the fields.

Local Area

With all the wonder of Fern Manor any thoughts of going out may be left by the wayside. But look - sandy beaches within easy reach at Weston-super-Mare and Brean, family fun at Puxton Park and Wookey Hole, heaps of history at Glastonbury Abbey, The Bishop’s Palace and Wells Cathedral, and all the glory of the great outdoors; climb the craggy peaks of the Mendip Hills, have a clifftop hike at Cheddar Gorge, puff your way up Crook Peak where the panoramic views will astound you.

Pootle over to the pretty village of Wedmore, browse the little shops, stop for lunch at one of the pubs, soak up the peaceful vibe and imagine how lovely it would be to live here.

For a full-on day out, plan a trip to Bristol to see the sights; take the kids to Bristol Aquarium, climb on board SS Great Britain in her dry dock, explore elegant Clifton Village, race across the Downs, view the world-famous suspension bridge from the observatory. Bath is only slightly further with its gorgeously Georgian architecture, its breathtaking Roman Baths, its beautiful abbey and so many shops and places to eat!

Near or far, or nowhere at all; what counts is that you enjoy every single minute of it. The memories will be precious.
