The Mount Pleasant Inn, Dawlish Warren, Dawlish, Devon

The Mount Pleasant Inn at Dawlish Warren in Devon is a family run pub housed in a quirky historic building overlooking the tranquil waters of the Exe estuary. It’s definitely a traditional place in terms of décor, ambience and service; lunch is served from 12:00-2:00pm and dinner from 6:00pm-9:00pm. The menu is extensive, with sandwiches, salads, cold platters, pasta and fish dishes, plus House Specialities like Home braised beef Bordelaise, and Butcher’s sausages with onion gravy, mash and peas. There are homemade curries, and on the Chef’s Specials are Steaks, a Mixed Grill, Deluxe burger and Grilled lamb chops.

The views from The Mount Pleasant are amazing, stretching right across the estuary to Exmouth and far out to sea. If you can take your gaze away, you’ll notice lots of character in the pub, the bumpy old walls, the ceiling beams and exposed wall timbers. Wood-burners bring warmth and cosiness in the winter, just the ticket for after a walk along the beach with the bracing wind blowing in your face. In the summer, there’s a terrace for those rare balmy nights; this is England after all.
