The Bakehouse, Castle Cary, Somerset
Go to The Bakehouse for exquisite Thai food in the Somerset town of Castle Cary, which isn’t actually that much of a surprise considering the upmarket vibe the town has acquired in recent years. It’s run by a husband and wife team – he’s British, she’s Thai, so she knows how to cook up authentic cuisine, how to bring out all those delicate flavours and how to present it well.
They don’t open for dinner, only during the day, but it’s a popular place with the locals and visitors which says something. They serve coffee and cake and for lunch, a mix of Thai and British Food; the menu changes daily because they like to vary it and to make the best use of the abundance of fresh produce that’s available locally. In the summer it’s nice to sit in the pretty courtyard garden beneath the shade of the grape vine.
Not a huge restaurant so if there’s 8 or more of you, you should book at least a day in advance.
