Stawley Village Shop & Tea Room, Appley Cross, Wellington, Somerset

Stawley Village Shop & Tea Room is within walking distance of Fuzzy Orchard, Ham Bottom and The Cottage Beyond, so what a lovely thing to do - take your basket and stroll to a little community run shop out in the sticks to stock up on fresh bread, milk, honey, eggs and seasonal produce that’s grown or raised in the fields nearby. They have a few surprises on their shelves, including beer and wine, and useful things like kindling, firelighters, , maps and walking/cycling guides.

Whilst you’re there stop off for a hot snack, a sandwich, or tea and cake – and do try the Appley Buns; once tasted, never forgotten.  If the sun is shining sit outside and soak up the loveliness, if not, sit inside and have a natter with the ladies who do their volunteer shifts in the shop – they’ll tell you all the best places to visit in these parts give you directions for good walks, and tell you all about the local characters too.

If you’re out on a bike ride, be sure to swing by – they have cycle racks and a stirrup pump, and they sell puncture repair kits! Now that’s handy. Somerset is full of surprises like that.
