Smalls Accommodation

Wind your way round the Devon lanes to Smalls, just across the estuary from sunny Salcombe, snuggled on the hill in large private grounds with direct access to its own area of sandy beach. Park up and go on in, make yourself at home.

Step into the utility room and it’s quite a surprise – no, it’s not the kitchen (that’s upstairs), this is just somewhere to leave your sandy shoes and dry the dog when you come back from playing on the beach just below the house. Round to the right are the two ground floor bedrooms and a bathroom; Bedroom 3 is a spacious room with a king size bed, Bedroom 4 has bunk beds and an optional extra guest bed at no additional charge, so it makes a brilliant room for 3 younger folk sharing. The bathroom has a bath and a separate shower.

Straight ahead in the utility room are the stairs; at the top of the landing go right to the kitchen and the living room. The kitchen has an oil fired Aga, but if that’s not something you’re used to, there’s an electric oven and induction hob too. Centre place is a pine topped table that seats 9 comfortably. When you’ve had your fill go through to the living room and settle down on the sofas; put your feet up, if it’s chilly out light the wood-burner. This is such a relaxing space and like the rest of Smalls it's all fresh and airy; the light is good and that wonderful waterside ambience pervades – you just know the sea isn’t far away. The décor throughout the house is crisp and white with subtle shades of blue, giving a distinctly maritime air. This is the place for a good old-fashioned holiday by the sea, days spent lazing in the garden, hours to be idled down on the beach.

Go left at the top of the stairs and at the end of the landing is Bedroom 1, the master bedroom of the house, with sea views, a king size bed and an ensuite bathroom with a free standing bath and a separate shower. Next to it is Bedroom 2, also with a king size bed, and right opposite there’s a shower room.

Doors open from the kitchen into the garden and the grounds – a big feature of Smalls because they are huge! Have a wander, go and explore and you’ll find a walled garden, terraces and wooded areas, an echo of the past when a grand Georgian house stood here. Just outside of the kitchen there’s a decking area with outdoor furniture and a barbecue – the perfect spot for morning coffee, lunch in the sunshine or a nightcap; before you is the Kingsbridge estuary and the twinkling lights of Salcombe.

The plot snuggles comfortably on the hillside so the grounds are on different levels, leading down to the waterside. There are more decking areas with a firepit and a hot tub, both with views over the estuary; just imagine… a relaxing soak in the warm bubbles, gazing out over the water, taking in those gorgeous vistas and the bracing sea air. That’s the kind of thing that holidays are all about, just completely letting go.

Cross the narrow road and the grounds of Smalls continue down to a sandy beach with safe bathing status – Smalls Cove; the path meanders through the trees, past the ponds and a seating area with a firepit, before coming out onto the beach; part of this is roped off solely for guests' use. This a such a special place to stay for holidays and weekends any time of year, but is especially perfect for summer holidays that you’ll always remember. Halcyon days and peaceful nights await you; book today!
