Ray's Mediterranean Restaurant might not be where you'd expect to find it - just across the road from the church in the quiet town of Axminster in East Devon, but here it is, run by Ray, taking his influence mostly from his homeland of Malta, infusing it with a creative English twist and using as much local produce as he can get his hands on - including fish fresh from the waters of the Jurassic Coast just down the road.
They serve breakfast, cake, lunch and dinner and have a menu with something for everyone - carnivores, vegetarians, vegans and those who follow a gluten free diet. There are pizzas and pasta of course, and fish and meat dishes including Chicken al formaggio, Homemade Mediterranean vegetarian Wellington and Salmon supreme. The atmosphere is bright and airy by day, candlelit by night, with authentic bits and pieces that reflect the ethos of the food and the Mediterranean vibe; staff are friendly and sometimes you know, it’s like you’re all one big happy family that Ray has invited round for dinner.
