If you’ve got young ‘uns with you when you’re staying at Coat Barn near Martock in Somerset, take them up to Martock Recreation Ground where they can let off a bit of steam. It covers 22 acres of parkland and the good thing is there’s a big car park and plenty for the kids (and grown ups) to do, with a football pitch, cricket pitch, rugby pitches, tennis courts, a skate park, multi-use games area and playgrounds. To boot, there’s even a pavilion with changing rooms and showers, so if you’re seriously sporty, take your kit and have a proper play.
Two of the tennis courts can be booked free of charge during daylight hours - up till 6 pm Sunday to Thursday, until 4.30 pm on Fridays or from 1.30 pm on Saturdays, although sometimes the local club might be using them for weekend tournaments.
