Kingsbridge Cookworthy Museum, Kingsbridge, Devon

Kingsbridge Cookworthy Museum is housed in a lovely old building that used to be the town’s grammar school back in the day. Sometimes it’s good to find out a bit about the places you visit when you’re on your UK holidays, so if you go to Kingsbridge, pop in for a browse; you never know what might stir your interest.

As you’d expect, there’s a lot of local history, history about Kingsbridge and the South Hams, shown through permanent displays and changing exhibitions. The permanent displays give you a very good insight into how people lived, worked and whiled away their leisure time in this area; there’s a fascinating collection of over 30,000 local photographs from 1870 to the present day, a costume gallery, a Victorian kitchen, and in the walled garden, a farm gallery with old agricultural machinery and tools.

There’s no café but there is a little shop so go and buy yourself a souvenir of your visit, a little momento to take home with you.
