Coombe Farm Fishing, Crewkerne, Somerset
Piscators can while away a few happy hours at the fishing lakes at Coombe Farm contentedly angling for carp (mirror, common and Crucian), tench and bream; there are three purpose built lakes nicely snucked away in a peaceful valley on a private estate in the Somerset countryside, so the backdrop is one of rolling hills and verdant pastures.
The more competitive fishermen will be aiming to beat the record of carp weighing 20lb+ caught here recently, so there’ something to set your sights on. You get your own patch of the pond and if you haven’t got your own rod you can hire one on-site, as well as stocking up with bait. The only provisos are that you must pre-book your fishing, you have to show your EA rod licence, and of course the usual rules apply – no more than two rods per person, barbless hooks only, etc.
If you get peckish you can stroll up to the farm shop and treat yourself to something tasty from the shop, perhaps a beef and horseradish sausage roll or an open steak sandwich, washed down with one of the beers they brew on site.
A good idea for corporate groups or a bunch of buddies is to tie in your fishing with a feast cooked for you by the team at Coombe Farm; have a picnic in the woods, a hog roast, a barbecue, whatever you fancy. If you want to make a day of it or if you have folk in your group who aren’t so keen on the fishing slip in a farm tour or clay pigeon shooting – Coombe Farm is a great place to be so make the most of it!
