Castle Bow Restaurant, Castle Hotel, Taunton, Somerset
The chef here is crazy about what he does and the result is food that’s divine, with the right amount of exquisite flavours; not overpowering, not bland; just right. There’s a huge emphasis on local ingredients, and they choose organic where they can, and line caught fish, that sort of thing. Herbs are grown in the Norman Castle garden, apples in the chutney are picked from the Castle’s own orchards, and bread is hand made in the Castle kitchen.
The setting is a 13th century gatehouse, the food, British classics with an original modern twist, and menus, quite rightly so, change with the seasons. Your whole table can share a tasting menu featuring Hand Dived Scallops and Crispy Chicken, Somerset Pigeon, and Brixham Turbot. On the a la carte mains are Truffle Pappardelle, Organic Dexter Beef, and Lyme Bay Cod.
