Babblebrook - Accommodation
Follow the winding country lanes over the little bridge to Babblebrook and your journey’s end. Park up, then pause a moment to take stock – the gorgeous gardens with a backdrop of wooded hillsides, the little river rushing along, the tranquillity and the birdsong. Then step inside, through the hall to a big L-shaped open-plan kitchen/dining/living room; the kitchen is country-modern and very well-equipped, a long wooden table sets the scene for happy celebrations feasts. Mismatched chairs, a huge painted dresser and oak flooring add to the country character; the fresh country ambience gently pervades throughout the house. It feels so welcoming and homely – just what you need for a truly relaxing stay.
Round the corner are sofas to settle on, so this is a room where you can all gather together, catch up and make memories. In the warmer weather, leave the French doors open, wander out onto the veranda that runs the entire length of the house, onto the lawns and among the trees. When it’s cold out, come back from a walk, ankle-deep in leaves, through Buzzards Woodland, light the wood-burner and warm your toes; get a plate of hot buttery toast and snuggle round.
Left of the open-plan living space there’s a conservatory, with French doors and steps down to the terrace; just around the corner is the hot tub, thoughtfully positioned for an idyllic soak. To the right of the main space is another living room, with a big fat L-shaped sofa, a widescreen TV, and books and games to while away the happy hours. There’s even desk space if you really must touch base with the office!
The bedrooms are all upstairs and have a wonderful, fresh and unfussy feel. The vibes are simple country style, so placid and restful – sleep should come easy here. Bedrooms 1 and 3 have super king beds, Bedroom 2 has a king size double, and Bedrooms 4 and 5 are twin rooms. All have lovely views of the garden, and use of two shower rooms or a family bathroom on the same floor.
Babblebrook is such a beautifully sequestered spot, a very special place to stay anytime of year. Indoors meets outdoors on the south facing veranda and the garden holds the sun for most of the day, so you can while away those blissful summer days in good old-fashioned holiday style. It really is enchanting, bringing you close to nature, with the river happily babbling along the boundary and birds chirruping all day long. Little paths twist and turn, there are lawns for garden games, and to either side are orchards, frothy with apple blossom in springtime, ripe with fruit in the autumn.
Snooze in the hammock, play croquet on the lawn, have a little picnic by the river in the orchard, recapture Swallows and Amazons days, far, far away from the push and shove of life. Head over to the games room, in a separate building in the garden, to raise a pool or table football challenge. Enjoy long and leisurely lunches outside, slip into the hot tub and watch clouds drift by as buzzards soar overhead; it’s all about the simple pleasures in life – nature is one of them, and here, it’s all around you. In the evening, sit by the firepit on the riverbank, toasting marshmallows and swapping stories as the stars come out one by one.
