Access Statement - Whitehaven
This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services offered to all guests/visitors. This statement has been drawn up by the owner(s) of Whitehaven and therefore Sleeps12 do not accept responsibility for any omissions or inaccuracies. Whitehaven is a large group holiday house on the edge of the Forest of Dean. It sleeps 12 people in 6 en suite bedrooms and has a private indoor pool, games room, and children's play area. Note that Whitehaven is not suitable for those using wheelchairs as there are steps to negotiate when accessing the property.
Train: The nearest train station is at Lydney, about 4 miles away.

Bus: The nearest bus station is at Lydney, about 3 miles away.
Services come to Lydney from Gloucester, Newport and Chepstow. Taxis are available from Lydney to Whitehaven.
Road: You will find detailed directions in the check in information which can be viewed after you have made a booking.
There is parking for 6 vehicles and the entrance to the car park can be found on the right, just beyond the house. Double gates protect the parking area from unauthorised access and should be kept shut except when accessing the car park. There is limited parking by the main gates for deliveries and for owner use.
Access to the House
The house is approximately 20m from the car park, reached via a footpath leading from the car park and main gate. There are steps or a downward slope leading to the two entrances. Both entrances have a step up to enter the property, requiring mobility or assistance (not suitable for wheelchair access).
Entrance to House
Both entrances to the house are elevated by a 3-4" step leading into the Utility room and Kitchen/Diner. The entrance to the kitchen diner is approx 90cm wide with an additional 40cm locked section.
There is a rear entrance to the boot room, which has coat hanging space, an area for wet boots, table football and a condenser dryer. A door leads to:
The Utility Room has a laundry area with a sink unit, washing machine and second dishwasher. There are doors off to the kitchen and the downstairs WC.
The Kitchen has a tile effect floor. The stove/cooker has a gas hob, two electric ovens and a grill. Other appliances include an upright fridge/freezer, a microwave, an inbuilt fridge & dishwasher, a toaster and cordless kettles.
The Kitchen leads through to the adjoining dining room, with continued tile effect floor, oak tables and leather covered chairs. This area connects to:
There is oak flooring, a pool table, and bookcase. This room is at the heart of the house with access to the stairs, lounge areas, downstairs W/C and ground floor bedroom.
This is accessed from the Games Room. There is also a tilt or slide opening window, which can be used as an exit in case of emergency. In addition there is a large 4 pane floor to ceiling fixed frame (non opening) window with views to the large garden area. Externally, there is a step of approx 3 – 4 inches the width of the large window. The room has oak flooring, with a wood-burner, TV, bookcase and 2 sofas.
This is also accessed from the Games Room and leads to the ground floor bedroom. This room has oak flooring, a TV and 2 sofas.
Ground Floor Bedroom (Bedroom 6)
The ground floor bedroom is at the rear of the propert, accessed via the rear lounge/study. This bedroom has zip and link beds (superking or twins) and an en suite w/c & shower room. However, access is limited and it is not suitable for wheelchair users.
STAIRS TO FIRST FLOOR
There are 12 steps to the first floor landing, providing access to Bedrooms 1-5.
This room has fitted wardrobes, a superking bed and an en suite shower room.
Bedrooms 2 & 3
These rooms have zip and link beds and shared use of a WC and bathroom with overhead shower, accessed from both bedrooms.
Bedrooms 4 & 5
Both of these bedrooms have zip and link beds and an en suite shower room.
Reception in the Forest of Dean area is patchy. However, Vodaphone, O2 and T-Mobile are accessible outside and in various areas of the house.
Due to the large volume of visitors to the house and limited turn around times, we are only able to accept pets by prior arrangement. Any additional cleaning costs needed to ensure the welfare of other guests will be chargeable.
Service dogs can be accommodated, but only with prior agreement with the property owners. Access must be restricted to non carpeted ground floor areas only. Any additional cleaning costs needed to ensure the welfare of other guest’s will be chargeable.
