Valleys Reach - Accommodation
Valleys Reach is a large holiday house that sleeps 14+2. The setting is peaceful with lush Somerset countryside all around and spectacular views across the valley where the River Tone slips merrily along. The feels are so welcoming, gentle and homely it makes you want to get inside, kick off your shoes and put your feet up as soon as you step inside. Through the porch there’s a wide hallway; off to the left is the living room, all lovely and snug with old ceiling beams and a wood-burner set in an inglenook fireplace, heritage red walls and elegant grey Chesterfield sofas add to the character. In the summer the room feels cool and airy; in the winter, light the fire and gather round.
Go through to the drawing room, kept cosy on colder days and nights with underfloor heating and the warmth of the wood-burner; there's no shortage of chairs and sofas so it's the perfect place to gather together for drinks before dinner. By day, natural light streams in through the big windows, in the evening when the curtains are pulled and the lamps switched on the room takes on a cosy ambience despite its size.
Straight ahead in the hall there’s a cloakroom and shower room and a door to a covered area - the perfect place for muddy boots and wet dogs after a rosy-cheeked walk in the fresh air. From here doors lead out to the back of the house and to the courtyard where there’s a hot tub and outdoor furniture. Follow the hall round to the left to the games room where there’s a half size snooker table; go through to the dining room, also accessed from the hall. In the dining room there are comfy chairs beside an inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove, French doors open onto the terrace, and a big table sets the scene for happy celebrations feasts. Hire private caterers to come in and cook you a mid-winter supper or to serve you cocktails and canapes on a summer evening (see Extras).
Off the dining room is the kitchen with a utility area and a scullery, very well equipped for catering for large groups, with plenty of room for prepping and cooking. All those old country house feels at Valleys Reach blend so well with up-to-the-minute modern conveniences, including a big commercial cooker.
Upstairs, off to the right of the long landing a lobby leads to Bedrooms 1 and 2; Bedroom 1 is a twin room, Bedroom 2 is a small double and both have use of a family bathroom that has a bath with an overhead shower. Bedroom 3 is straight ahead at the top of the stairs and has a double bed and ensuite bathroom. Left of the landing is Bedroom 4, another twin room with an ensuite bathroom, and further on are Bedrooms 5 and 6, both with double beds and ensuite bathrooms. Bedroom 7 is on a half landing as you climb the stairs; it has zip and link beds (super king or twin) and shared use of the family bathroom or the downstairs shower room. The bedrooms are all so in keeping, it's like staying at a rich elderly aunt's house in the country.
Available at an extra charge is a separate annexe with a double bedroom and an ensuite wet room; this is perfect for an elderly couple who like to turn in a little earlier than the rest of you.
