Tiverton Museum, Tiverton, Devon

Sometimes it’s good to discover a little about the places we go on holiday too. It helps us to remember happy days spent in the area and if you have a few souvenirs too, even better. So those who like to preserve their memories, and those who just can’t get enough of history in any shape or form should pay a visit to Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life if they’re down that way.
You’ll find out all about the local industries, the huge part that agriculture played in this neck of the woods and how Mid Devon folk lived their day to day lives. There are all sorts of interesting things on display from Roman artefacts, old toys, and lace making tools to an historic kitchen and laundry, a farm wagon and the ‘Tivvy Bumper’ – a steam engine that ran on the Great Western Railway, and as you’d expect, wartime stories from the area. Kids can pick up Explorer Packs, quizzes and trail free of charge, grown-ups can join in. Go along, it’ll probably be a couple of hours well spent.
