The Thatch, Croyde, North Devon

A thatched pub close to the surfing beaches of Croyde that’s packed to the rafters, or to be more accurate, the heavy oak beams, with character; from the outside a charming Devon longhouse, inside very traditional, with old pine settles and mismatched furniture, thick stone walls, and an unmistakeable lively ambience.
Food kicks off at breakfast time – the usual Full English or variations thereof, plus porridge and granola. There’s a few menus – Appetisers with things like Moroccan Spiced Butternut Hummus, Antipasti Platter, and Olives, and there’s Nachos which are going down a storm. The Burger Menu features an Aromatic Garden Burger for vegetarians, and the Exmoor Beast for those the other end of the spectrum who love their meat. Then there’s classic pub grub, jacket potatoes, steaks, salads, and the House Specials with some serious tempters – Sausage and Confit Duck Cassoulet, Homemade Veggie Enchiladas, and Chef Wasantha’s Sri Lankan Seafood Curry.  Mouth watering puddings, a kids menu, and hot drinks and that’s everything covered, so it’s just a case of making your mind up what to go for and deciding where to sit; inside amidst the old books, soft lamplight and quirky bits and pieces, or out in the garden that’s bursting with flowers and hanging baskets, with a backdrop of gently sloping fields. Depends on the weather….
