The Olde Red Lion, Wellow, Newark, Nottinghamshire
The Olde Red Lion is what you’d call traditional. Fine dining it is not and it makes no claims to be but it’s a good old honest pub with no pretensions; the staff are friendly and the food comes in generous portions. Tuck in, enjoy it and then go home for a snooze or walk it off with a walk around the village.
If the sun has got his hat on sit outside and watch the comings and goings, although there may not be too many of them in the peaceful village of Wellow. The pub overlooks the village green where a maypole has stood since Victorian times and ribbon dancing continues to this day.
