Sugar Loaf Mountain, Nr Abergavenny, Monmouthshire

This is a beauty just 2 miles north of Abergavenny; if you’re serious about walking this has to be on your list. At 1,955 feet it’s the summit of the southernmost peaks of the Black Mountains, and you can imagine the views – miles and miles of spectacular open countryside reaching to the Brecon Beacons, the Cotswolds and the Bristol Channel. It’s owned by the National Trust and is managed by grazing Welsh mountain sheep. On the south facing slopes there’s a vineyard where they produce Sugar Loaf Wines; nearby are several rustic country pubs for a well deserved bite to eat.
