The best days to go to South Molton are Thursdays and Saturdays when the Pannier Market is on from 8.30 am to 1.00 pm. The atmosphere is one it feels good to be part of – upbeat, lively, everyone seems to be in good spirits and you can’t help but get caught up in it all as you browse the stalls (there are over 70 of them) and chat to the traders. Take plenty of bags because there’s plenty to tempt you – mostly things that are grown, raised or made here in Devon – fresh fruit and veg, meat, bread and cakes, pies and pasties, cheese, jams and chutneys, quite an array. Really, it’s a place where you can find almost anything you could need, even pet food, wool, greeting cards, household supplies and books. There’s even a café in the Pannier market selling hot drinks and food.
