There’s a huge field to fork ethos at this award winning organic farm kitchen in Devon. Almost everything they use in their dishes comes from the fields or from the kitchen garden, just metres away, so you know that it’s all fresh and seasonal, most likely picked that morning or shortly before cooking. It’s a popular place with a bustling atmosphere and it’s family friendly to the point that there are even colouring sheets and toys for the littl’uns.
They do things a bit differently at Riverford Field Kitchen; everyone is served at the same time from a set menu of 6-8 dishes with big platters of food being passed around for everyone to share. For an idea of what to expect, previous menus have had things like Potatoes, green beans & tapenade, Roasted cauliflower with spiced tomatoes, Freshly baked sourdough, Beetroot & clementine salad, and Beef bavette with braised fennel and churri churri.
You might have to share a table with people you don’t know, that’s all part of the happy-friendly ethos. It doesn’t work for everyone, but that’s how it is. The other thing is, don’t be late.
