Monkey World, Wareham, Dorset

A 65 acre sanctuary in the Dorset countryside is home to over 250 rescued and endangered primates, including the largest group of chimpanzees outside of Africa. They’ve got 5 different types of gibbon, 11 species of monkeys and prosimians, and both Bornean and Sumatran orang-utans, which is enlightening for those of us who didn’t even know there were so many different types of primates. Monkeys come here from all over the world and the centre works with foreign governments to stop the illegal smuggling of apes out of Asia and Africa, so your entrance fee goes towards a very good cause. Buy a souvenir in the shop or adopt your own monkey, take the little ones to the play area and have refreshments at The Watering Hole.
