Lilico’s, Barnstaple, Devon
Lilico’s is a rustic style bar and restaurant in the middle of Barnstaple; it opens at 11.00 every day for cakes, lunches and the piece de resistance, authentic tapas. It’s a lively place with eclectic décor, chirpy service and an upbeat vibe, aided by regular live music, and in the summer a beer garden where you can sip cocktails alfresco.
We haven’t been to Lilico’s so we can’t speak from experience but the food looks good and it gets excellent reviews. On the mains are some tantalising temptations like Char-grilled sardines with bread and salad (what else do you need with char-grilled sardines, honestly?), Thai seafood curry, Vegetable Mezze (vine leaves, roasted peppers, aubergines, olives and courgettes, halloumi fries, deep fried potatoes, mixed breads, mint garlic yoghurt and hummus), warm flatbread with your choice of topping (Cajun chicken, Smoked Village sausage or Roasted veg), and slow 12 hour cooked brisket. You must say!
