Greenway, Galmpton, Brixham, Devon

Greenway, on the banks of the River Dart not far from Brixham, is well known as Agatha Christie’s holiday home and as the place that inspired some of her novels. These days it’s owned by the National Trust so you can go and have a look around, to see the elegant drawing room, the library with its hand painted frieze, and the collections of china and books amassed by five generations of the Christie family.

Outside, woodland garden rolls gracefully down to the River Dart, a sight indeed with drifts of snowdrops in late winter, followed by daffodils and magnolia in blossom. There are trails that take you from Greenway into the lush Devon countryside so if you have time, go and explore; when you get back head to the café for a bun.

Opening hours vary throughout the year so check the website before you go.
