Gold Hill, Shaftesbury, Dorset

Gold Hill in Shaftesbury must be one of the prettiest and most photographed streets in the country; it’s been used in countless calendars and is famous for the Hovis Bread advert that was filmed here in 1973. Stand at the top of the hill and you have the most wonderful vista of the cobbled street lined with thatched and tiled centuries-old cottages, and of the Blackmore Vale beyond. At the bottom of the hill is a welcoming 18th century pub that serves good homemade food – Ye Olde Two Brewers; go there for lunch and admire the far reaching views from the beer garden.
