Courtyard Café, Town Mill, Lyme Regis, Dorset

When you find the Courtyard Café tucked away at The Town Mill in Lyme Regis, you might well want to keep it to yourself because it’s quite a little gem. The historic setting among the restored mill buildings around the cobbled courtyard is very nice of course, but it’s more than that, inside it’s just so lovely, all light and airy with twinkly lights strung about and pretty vintagey things; you feel relaxed, that’s the thing, like you could stay and chat for ages over a pot of tea and scrumptious homemade cake. They do breakfasts too, though not for the early birds, and light lunches, and what’s more they cater for all diets, so if you’re vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, it’s not a problem.

It’s what you’d call Bistro style; the food is all homemade, and ingredients come from the local vicinity, with organic and Fair Trade at the forefront. Salads and veg are from a farm a few miles away, herbs are from the owners garden or the Millers Garden just a minute away, and the flour that’s used in the bread, cakes and pastries is made in the on-site watermill. To give you an idea of what you might find on offer, think along the lines of Wild garlic fritters with poached egg and salad, Grilled goat's cheese salad, Welsh rarebit and Bacon butties.

The Courtyard Café is family friendly and dog friendly, and is open year round 7 days a week, usually from 10.30-4ish, with the exception of January when they close for a well-earned break.
