Go to Cold Harbour Farm Shop just up the hill from Ottery St Mary and you’ll find countless delights that are grown or produced locally, to buy and take away with you, or to eat in the café in some shape or form. Much of it comes from the farm in fact, so that field to fork ethic packs a mighty punch. If you were to have sausages and salad for your lunch here the meat will have come from animals that grazed contentedly in these very fields, and the salad veg will have been grown in the polytunnels. Now, that’s keeping it real, we like that.
Of course, farm shops are always a pull for carnivores, but at the award winning Cold Harbour Farm Shop vegetarians and those with special diets, like gluten free, aren’t forgotten; they even do a veggie cooked breakfast.
So have a bite to eat and then go and fill your basket with all manner of lovelies - free range sausages, burgers and roasting joints, fruit and veg, bread, pies, pickles, jams, biscuits, even homemade frozen meals. There’s also a nice selection of cards and gifts so take your time to browse, and be grateful for places like this.
