Cirencester, Gloucestershire

Discover the ‘Capital of The Cotswolds’ when you visit Cirencester, a vibrant town in Gloucestershire with a history that dates back to Roman times – you can see an extensive collection of Roman artefacts in the Corinium Museum, and on the edge of town are the huge earthwork remains of one of the largest Roman Amphitheatres in Britain.

Browse the shops in the main streets, explore the historic streets and soak up the lively air of the Charter Market on Mondays and Fridays. Wander down to New Brewery Arts to see makers at work, stroll around the peaceful Abbey Grounds and take five by the lake, see the Victorian lock-up used to hold criminals before the police force came into being.

Minutes from the centre of town is Cirencester Park Polo Club where you can watch a match and enjoy a leisurely picnic beside the field or sip a Pimms in the clubhouse.

Back in town, there’s a great choice of places to eat – Corinium Court Hotel, The Golden Cross, and Jacks are all highly recommended.
