Get ready for adventures on the River Wye with Canoe the Wye! Outdoorsy types will love this, but even if you’ve never been canoeing before, maybe you should consider it because this is such a lovely thing to do when you’re staying nearby on your large group holiday in the Forest of Dean. Imagine: the weather’s good, the birds are singing, the trees are in full leaf, and all is well as you paddle your way along the river to Symonds Yat. It’s possibly the best way to see the beautiful scenery, to experience the sights and sounds and to be close to nature.
How it works is you rock up at their HQ at Symonds Yat, you get your canoes, paddles, life jackets, and a dry barrel for your possessions. Then there’s a safety briefing before they drive you off to the launch point upstream to begin your adventure. They offer trips of varying lengths – hire by the hour (great for beginners), for half a day, three quarters of a day, a whole day or 2 days. If you choose a longer trip you can stop off enroute for a picnic, otherwise, wait till you get back to base and then head to Ye Old Ferrie Inn for sustenance.
