Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, Bristol, Somerset

The first thing you’ll notice when you step into Bristol Museum & Art Gallery is the famous Bristol Boxkite flying above your head in this beautiful glass vaulted space. Wander around the ground floor and you’ll find all sorts of fascinating displays from the ancient civilisations of Assyria and Egypt to the wildlife that inhabits the wetlands of the South West. Go upstairs and it's all about the natural world – dinosaurs, wildlife, geology and minerals. Say hello to Alfred the gorilla, get up close to a decorative Gypsy caravan, and get a different view of that flying Boxkite from the balcony.

Art lovers will be in their element on the second floor as that’s where all the paintings are; plus some impressive collections of pottery, ceramic and glass, including of course, Bristol Delftware and Bristol Blue Glass.

The museum features exhibitions that change regularly and events throughout the year; there’s a café for snacks and light bites, and there’s a well stocked gift shop.

Open: Tues- Sun & Bank Holidays 10am-5pm
