Blackfriars Priory, Gloucester, Gloucestershire
Whilst you’re in Gloucester, visit this wonderful medieval Dominican monastery; it dates back to 1239 and is the most complete surviving example of its kind in Britain. It’s easy to find, being right in the town centre, so if you want to escape the hustle and bustle for a while go and explore the beautiful buildings; you'll see a rare scissor braced timber roof and the Scriptorium, the oldest and most well preserved medieval library in the UK. Just feel the historic ambience, imagine what it was like when the monks lived here, and for a moment of pure mindfulness sit quietly in the tranquil courtyard garden.
Open March-September, Sun and Mon 10-4.
