AS Watersports, Exeter, Devon

If you go down to AS Watersports at the Quay in Exeter, you can hire a canoe, kayak or SUP and spend a few hours or more on the peaceful waters of the old canal. It was built in the 1560's so it's one of the oldest manmade waterways in the country; once a busy shipping route, it's now a haven for wildlife and just such a nice place to be. AS Watersports have self guided canoe and kayak loops that link the canal with the Exe estuary; do one of those and you'll take in some stunning scenery. Allow 2-3 hours, although there's one that can take a whole day; for a shorter paddle go up to the Double Locks pub and stop by for a bite to eat.

They have a few rules: children must be over 8 years of age, and if they're under 17, they must be accompanied by an adult (1 adult to every 2 children). They do tuition too, so if you fancy learning something new, here's your chance.
