Whitehaven is a big country cottage that's been thoughtfully renovated and extended in recent years to provide spacious and luxurious self catering holiday accommodation for large groups. The property is both well-equipped, modern and stylish, with everything you need for an enjoyable and relaxing stay; the warmth of oak floors in the games room, sitting room and snug creates a homely ambience, and the big kitchen diner is light and airy with plenty of room to cook and a big table that comfortably seats 12 people - fantastic for everyone to sit round and tuck into a big celebratory feast.
You see, at Sleeps 12 we think it's important that our properties have kitchens that are sociable as well as spacious and convenient, so you can chat whilst you prepare and cook a meal; that way you don't miss out on any of the fun. The kitchen at Whitehaven is very up-to-the-minute with a double oven range with a large gas hob, an American style fridge/freezer, a microwave and a dishwasher. Right next to the kitchen is a handy utility area with a washing machine and a tumble dryer, and a separate WC. It's all more or less open plan in this part of the house so that you can all be together, being sociable, that's the whole idea. So the kitchen leads through to the capacious dining room, a lovely light filled space with doors that open onto the patio; when it's dark soft lighting creates a totally different ambience for those special dinners - and don't forget - if you don't fancy cooking, check out our Extras page and book one of our tried and tested caterers to come in and create a feast fit for royalty.
The dining room leads through to the games room where there's a pool table and a bookcase with plenty more to keep you entertained. Continue through to the spacious sitting room, with a big TV, and a traditional style woodburning stove, lovely for those chillier days and nights. This room is a sanctuary any time of year; come in out of the blazing sunshine in summer, snuggle up to watch a movie on a dark wintery night, catch the big match, spend some time curled up with a good book.
There is also a cosy snug/study on the ground floor, another good spot to grab some downtime with a book or magazine, or to sit and quietly chat. Next to this is the downstairs bedroom which, like Bedroom 2 to 5, has zip and link beds, so it can be configured to a kingsize or twin room, depending on how you want it. This is a bright and cheerful bedroom with an ensuite shower room and French doors out to the garden.
There are 5 further good sized bedrooms on the first floor; three of these have en suite shower rooms and the other two have use of a shared bathroom. The bedrooms are all finished in soothing neutral tones with complementary accents of colour in the soft furnishings; it creates a very restful feel, conducive to a good night's sleep.
The big garden is a serious draw of this property; there are gorgeous far reaching views across the countryside, and woodland to one side so it's a great for spotting wildlife; you may even see deer come to the edge of the woods and out into the field to feed. Children have heaps of room to run around and let off steam, and there's a brilliant play area with a chunky climbing frame, swings and a trampoline. When the skies are blue and the sun is shining you can relax outside and have a barbecue on the patio, and if the English weather should let you down you can take shelter in the heated dining pavillion which can easily seat your entire party. It's a nice place to sit with a glass of wine or a beer, putting the world to rights as the night draws in..., and of course it's ideally placed for keeping an eye on the young 'uns whilst they're happily playing.
The pool house is just a few steps from the house and the good thing about it is that there are huge bi-folding doors which can be turned right back on hot days so the pool becomes more of the outdoors. The pool measures 10x5m and has a constant depth of 1.2m, so is great for all the family and you don't even need to be a good swimmer to join in the fun.
