It's hard to imagine that Viney Hill Country House used to be part of a big working farm and the people who worked here probably wouldn't recognise it now. A lot of hard work and careful thought went into renovating and extending the house, resulting in spacious large group holiday accommodation that's so calm and peaceful, and remarkably well equipped. The style is modern and homely; oak floors in the games room, sitting room and dining room help to create a warm ambience.
The big kitchen/diner still has the original beams, and the chunky dining table comfortably seats 16 people; one of the greatest pleasures in life is sitting round a big table laden with food and drink, with your favourite people, the chat and the laughter. If cooking for such a large group brings you out in a sweat, then book one of our well reputed local caterers to come in and they'll create a feast that'll tantalise your tastebuds. They can do three course dinners, canapes and drinks; have a look at their menus on our Extras page - it's a good idea if you're celebrating a special occasion, like a big birthday or if you're having a hen weekend.
The kitchen has a definite country feel to it, and there' plenty of space for cooking, whoever does it. Ample cupboard space, a double oven range with a large gas hob, a microwave, 2 dishwashers and 2 fridge/freezers. Have a glass of wine and chat whilst you do the slicing and dicing; the kitchen-diner was designed to be a very sociable space. Just next to the kitchen is a utility room with a washing machine and dryer; come in the back door, take off your muddy boots, hang up your wet coats, dry your dogs.
The games room is great for rainy days and chilly evenings, although the teenagers seem to like it anytime of year. Shoot some pool, have a game of table football, get the board games out or watch a movie.
Across the hall from the games room is the library, where you can snuck away for a quiet morning coffee and a read of the newspaper, or curl up and get your head in a good book. You can all gather together in the commodious sitting room where there's plenty of leather sofas, a big TV and for those colder times of the year, an easy-to-use wood-burning stove. Step out of the French doors onto the patio and to the covered pool which measures 10m x 5m pool with a constant depth of 1.5m.
A chunky staircase leads to the first floor to Bedrooms 3-8, all with ensuite facilities. Bedrooms 5 and 7 make good family rooms as they both have a kingsize and a single bed. Bedrooms 3 and 4 have zip and link beds which can be arranged as superkings or twins, whilst Bedroom 6 has a kingsize bed and Bedroom 8 a small double. Up on the second floor are Bedrooms 1 and 2, with zip and link beds and ensute shower rooms. All bedrooms are finished in soothing neutral tones and soft lighting to help you unwind for a good night's sleep; leave the window open a smidgeon, let the fresh country air drift in whilst you snooze and in the morning you'll wake up feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed.
And outside? A garden of roughly an acre and all the privacy you need to chill out and enjoy your large group stay. Get out on the patio, fire up the barbecue (Apr-Oct only) and dine alfresco with the backdrop of glorious Gloucestershire countryside; open fields, little copses and villages snuggled on the hillsides, it's lovely.
The great thing about Viney Hill Country House is that even if the English weather lets you down, it's not a problem. You can still have a barbecue in the Scandinvian style BBQ lodge, and do you know what? Once you're all in there, snuggled up together beneath the fairy lights, you'll love it so much you'll be out there for hours chatting and swapping stories; bring your guitar, have a sing song. Because the pool is covered and heated, again, you can be out there anytime of year, and as long as it's reasonably dry the tiny tots and younger children will be happy romping about in the play area, boinging on the trampoline. All ages, all year, that's the beauty of Viney Hill.
