So the church is booked, reception sorted, bride and bridesmaids dresses almost ready, honeymoon selected.... plans for the big day are no doubt going well, so it's time to head off for a weekend of celebrations with your loveliest girly friends. Thorncombe is the ideal self catering hen party accommodation for those more refined girls weekends away. With room for 12 people in 5 en suite bedrooms, this luxury lodge has a big open plan living/entertaining space, just perfect for such special occasions, plus there's a fantastic indoor heated pool and plenty of room outside for afternoon tea or a barbecue, or even dancing on the patio.

Thorncombe is nestled right at the foot of the Quantock Hills in Somerset so you couldn't wish for a better location if your best bunch of buddies are the outdoor types - there are plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling, but one fo the best ways to see the hills has to be on horseback with Quantock Trekking, and afterwards they'll do you high tea at their HQ.  If your pre-wedding posse are more indoorsy, then check out our Extras page and book up an afternoon of delights - cupcake decorating, life drawing, belly dancing, street dancing, indulgent spa treatments, a craft workshop; there's a lot to choose from. You might even treat yourselves to some pampering from one of our tried and tested mobile therapists. If you need retail therapy then go to Taunton and book a table for lunch at Brazz; if you fancy a leisurely day out go to Dunster and visit the castle (NT) that looms high above the village streets, or jump on the steam train at the West Somerset Railway and pootle through the countryside to the coast where you can alight at Watchet or Minehead for fish and chips on the beach and a paddle in the sea. If you plan ahead you can even book your own carriage and get all dressed up vintage style.

If the thought of cooking for 12 is just too stressful then book up at one of the local pubs for dinner - The Rising Sun at West Bagborough or The Carew Arms at Crowcombe are both good options, or there's a very good restaurant Podshavers Barn at Bishops Lydeard. Otherwise, stay in, get glammed up, and have one of our recommended caterers into to cook up a celebratory feast to make your mouth water - how about a cheeky Butler in the Buff as well? Shake off any groggy feelings the next day with an amble through the lanes or a stroll on one of the nearby beaches. It'll be a carefree weekend spent enjoying yourselves and making wonderful memories to look back on.
