It never feels right to leave your four legged friend behind when you go on holiday, even if it’s just for a weekend or a mid-week break; those sad little eyes when you glance back at him at the kennels – heartbreaking, isn’t it? Well, no need to worry about that, you can bring him with you when you come to Shires. In fact, if he’s got a friend, you can bring him too, because two dogs are welcome here, and we reckon there’ll be waggy tails all round because being off the beaten track and surrounded by the beautiful countryside of East Devon, there are plenty of opportunities for walkies right from the doorstep. Just across the lane you can climb over the stile and head off on a footpath across the fields, and there are several more detailed in leaflets of local walks.

Not far away are the rolling Blackdown Hills where you can set off for a stride around Castle Neroche or Staple Hill where there’s an Easy Access Viewpoint, and even closer are Otterhead Lakes where you can have a short stroll around top and bottom lakes, or take a bigger loop of about 4.5 miles. In about 20 minutes you can be on the World Heritage Site Jurassic Coast where you’ll find dog friendly beaches at Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Axmouth and Seaton.

And of course, there’s a huge garden at Shires so your mutt will get plenty of exercise running around with you, playing fetch. All we ask is that you abide by our dog rules, as set out below.

Note: Two dogs are welcome at this property and must be added when you are making your booking. A charge of £50 per dog will then be applied to the booking total.

There are strict dog rules to abide by at our properties, so please make sure you have read these before planning to bring your dog.
