In a beautiful valley at the foot of the Quantock Hills, Cockercombe is one of five timber-clad luxury holiday lodges. Finished to a high standard, it's spacious, light and airy with modern interiors in calming tones which add to the relaxed feel. A separate pool room houses the private 22ft x 10ft indoor heated swimming pool, that's an even 4ft deep and perfect for year round use. There are big double doors that you can fling wide open to bring a bit of the outdoors in, but the best thing is you can take a dip whenever you want; imagine an early morning swim, or last thing at night....

The garden is secure and enclosed and has a sturdy locally crafted play fort for younger children, as well as a bouncy trampoline; this is what makes it such an ideal family retreat, it's easy to keep an eye on the little ones and they're happy, so the grown ups are happy too. All around the lodges is the gorgeous Somerset countryside; the gentle scarp of the Quantock Hills rises just behind the house and in the other direction are distant views of  Exmoor National Park.

The bedrooms all have good sized ensuite bathrooms, flatscreen TVs, and  zip-and-link beds which can be configured to superkings or twins to suit your requirements. On the ground floor, Bedrooms 1 and 2 both have a shower and Bedroom 3 has a wet room (access friendly). Upstairs, all of the ensuites have baths with handheld showers

These lodges were designed to be very sociable spaces, and it's certainly turned out that way. Cockercombe has a huge 30ft x 20ft open plan living space with plenty of soft seating to one end, and there's a user-friendly wood-burner for extra warmth on those chillier days. The dining table is big enough to seat 14 people; perfect for meals together and for happy celebratory feasts. Light pours in through the full height windows and you can open the doors to let the breeze waft in when it's hot.

To the other end of this living space is the kitchen, well equipped for creating all manner of culinary delights; there's a range cooker, two electric cookers, a fridge-freezer, a separate fridge, and a dishwasher. The open plan aspect allows you to cook and socialise at the same time, but we appreciate that not everyone wants to play chef when they're on holiday, so we have a list of tried and tested caterers who will come in and do it all for you.

If the sun is shining and the skies are blue, you might prefer to dine outside, on the patio where there's ample garden furniture, sun parasols and a barbecue. Get your steaks sizzling and sit back with a long cool drink, or have a game of outdoor table tennis.

The lodge is thoughtfully and stylishly finished, with travertine flooring throughout the ground floor, the cosiness of carpet upstairs, warm oak doors for added ambience, and radiators throughout the house for the colder times of the year, plus that lovely woodburner - perfect to gather round with hot drinks when you get back from a muddy walk in the Quantock Hills.

Bring the family, bring friends, or bring colleagues to this luxury Somerset holiday home for a whole week, a mid-week break, or just for a weekend. Cockercombe sleeps 14 guests in 6 ensuite bedrooms, and there's also room for a toddler bed and cot.
