You’ll love Pink Thatch; this gorgeous country cottage sleeps up to 15 and is packed full of quirky old charm, some of it dating back to the 16th century. Think chunky stone walls, big thick timbers, exposed beams, flagstones and oak floorboards, and original fireplaces. It’s a beaut and you’ll feel any worries slip away the minute you step in through the big oak door to the porch. It’s almost as if the whole place lets out a soft sigh and welcomes you in.
To the left is the sitting room, but more of that later. Straight ahead, up a couple of steps, is the huge kitchen/dining room, gorgeous and light filled, stylish and well equipped. The kitchen has Shaker style units, a 4 oven electric range is housed in a wide stone fireplace, a big sturdy dining table seats 15, and bi-fold doors open onto the terrace and garden.
A lobby leads from the kitchen to two ground floor bedrooms and a shower room - a great set up for a couple with young children, or for anyone who finds stairs a little tricksy. Bedroom 5 has a single bed and space for a pop-up or toddler bed; Bedroom 6 is a double room with an en suite shower room. The inner hall takes you round to the sitting room, a wonderful, big room with a beamed ceiling, huge rustic timbers, massive flagstones on the floor, and a quirky fireplace with a wood-burner and in the back wall, the original bread oven. Put your feet up on the sofas and chill; this is a room to gather together, to watch movies, play games, to chat and just be. You really start to notice the quirkiness of Pink Thatch now, the lovely wonkiness of uneven walls and floors, just how it should be.
Beyond the sitting room is the games room where there’s a pool table, an old brick fireplace with a wood-burner, a charming window seat, and French doors to the garden. An open tread wooden staircase leads up to Bedrooms 3 and 4; Bedroom 4 has zip and link beds that can be arranged as a king size or as two 2ft 6” beds. Bedroom 3 is an amazing room with centuries old exposed rafters that soar right to the pitch of the roof, and because it can can sleep 4 it’s great for a family. There’s a zip and link bed that can be configured as a superking or 3ft singles, and a day bed with a pull out truckle. A door leads to the en suite bathroom, and wow, what a room! This is very unique and so tastefully done, so creative! To one side is a huge walk-in shower, to the other an old marble topped washstand has been adapted to take two contemporary wash basins – it’s like something from an interiors magazine!
Up a couple of steps is a dressing area and a door leading to Bedroom 2 which has zip and link beds that can be a king size or 2ft 6” twins; this room has its own en suite shower room. What we love about Pink Thatch is how nothing is uniform – the bedrooms all have their own quirks, some have built-in cupboards where you can hang your clothes, others have wall hangers; all have country views.
Just along the landing is where the stairs from the kitchen rise, and right at the end is Bedroom 1, above the dining area. This is a very spacious room, another one that sleeps 4, in zip and links (superking or twin) and two additional singles. A fabulous feature of this room is the full height windows giving views over the garden and of the hill that rises opposite, where cows contentedly graze most of the year. There’s a lovely en suite bathroom with a free standing rolltop bath and a separate shower.
Outside there’s a stone terrace by the doors at the end of the dining area and steps down to decking and the covered hot tub. Take it from us, to sit out there in the hot tub on a beautiful summers day when the trees are in full leaf and the birds are happily twittering away is a dream; the stream chuckles along at the bottom of the garden, if you’re very, very quiet you might be lucky enough to spot deer coming into the garden to feed, and squirrels scampering about on the lawns. The gardens stretch along the entire length of the cottage so there's so plenty of room for the younglings to play; round to one side; to the other side is the gravelled parking area. Big happy all round, book your stay today!
