With parts of it dating back to the 16th century, Pink Thatch is one of those gorgeously captivating country cottages where you start to feel at home the minute you step inside. Outside is picture-postcard perfect; the softest icing sugar pink walls topped with a heavy thatch; lawns slope down to a stream, a boundary of trees is home to birds that chirrup merrily. Inside is an eclectic mix of vintage and modern furnishings that sit well with centuries old features and rustic character; thick bumpy walls, lots of beams and exposed timbers, original flagstones, and old fireplaces.
You’ll love it here, this big holiday cottage in Wiltshire sleeps 15 and is very well equipped; bathrooms are bang on trend, a big dining table can play host to happy celebration feasts. To top it all, out on the terrace there’s a hot tub beneath a big wooden gazebo and plenty of room for the young ‘uns to run about on the lawns. You can walk from the cottage to Seend Locks where there’s a very good pub, The Barge Inn, right on the Kennet & Avon Canal. Linger a while, look out for swans and moorhens, stroll in the woods, cycle along the towpath. A little further afield there’s a multitude of things to do; pop into Devizes just up the road, get your bits and pieces, visit the museum, do the Treasure Trail Hunt around the town, sample the local brew on a tour of Wadworth Brewery. Garden lovers will adore Bowood House and Gardens, Ilford Manor Gardens and Great Chalfield Manor, history buffs will appreciate Lacock Abbey, Farleigh Hungerford Castle, Avebury Henge and Stone Circles, and of course, Stonehenge.
Go to Bradford on Avon and have a boat trip on the canal, or a must for the little ones, have a day out at Longleat Wildlife Park or Wookey Hole. Spend the day in Bath, see the famous Roman Baths, the magnificent Abbey, The American Museum, The Fashion Museum, or do the Bath Skyline Walk. Salisbury is good for a day trip too, with its beautiful cathedral and ancient water meadows, or a little further is Bristol where you can go to Bristol Zoo, We The Curious Science Museum, Bristol Aquarium, or climb on board SS Great Britain.
Spend a morning browsing around Marlborough or Chippenham, go and spot the famous Wiltshire white horses carved on the chalk hillsides, or head off to explore the picturesque Cotswolds. Tie it in with a laid back lunch at a cosy country pub – The Westbrook and The Greyhound at Bromham are both good, or try The Ivy at Heddington or The Well at Bulkington.
And that reminds us. A Wiltshire joke: Why don’t they have French Fries in Wiltshire? Because there’s no Devizes for Chippenham…. (groan!). Take no notice; check availability and book your stay at Pink Thatch today!
